Please note: At Zinc Clinic, we only perform hair removal for medical conditions.

NdYag lasers are a relatively gentle and effective device for solving the problem of unwanted body hair.

Hair on the underarms, legs, back, chin, and other areas can be eradicated with relative ease, and after a few treatments, the results are considered permanent. The Cutera Coolglide 1064nm laser is a beneficial and effective hair removal laser for patients of all skin types, from light to dark, including tanned patients.

  • The Coolglide is a unique laser because it has a built-in cooling tip in the handpiece to cool the skin before and after the laser pulse. This protects the skin from a possible burn, so it is appropriate for all skin types.
  • As the name implies, the Coolglide handpiece cools and soothes as it glides along your skin.
  • Most areas require 3-6 treatments. At each session, the Coolglide laser permanently disables the follicles when the hair is in its “active” growth stage. Those hair follicles are not going to grow back. However, the number of Coolglide treatments required for optimal long-term benefits depends on multiple factors – hair thickness, the area treated and your hair’s growth cycle.
  • Not all hairs are “actively” growing at the same time and actually go through three distinct phases: active growth, regression, and resting.
  • Since all lasers work by targeting the melanin in the hair follicle, it will not work on blond, red, white or gray hair, since there is no pigment in those hair follicles.

The Coolglide laser used at Zinc Clinic is a 1064nm laser, which is the longest wavelength available. It can be used on any type skin, including patients with dark tans or Latin, Middle Eastern, or African-American background. It can disable hundreds of hair follicles in less than one second, with long-lasting results for hair removal in all skin types.

Coolglide is one of the only laser hair removal systems that is approved for permanent hair reduction, defined as a long term, stable reduction in the number of hairs re-growing after a treatment regime. With adequate treatment, patients can achieve a 90% or greater reduction in hair in treated areas, but treatment results do vary among patients. It was specifically designed and tested to eliminate undesired hair from all parts of the body.

How long has laser technology been in use?

Lasers have been used in medicine for 20 years. Laser hair removal began 10 years ago, but hair removal laser technology has really progressed in the last five years.

What is the difference between pulsed light and lasers?

Pulsed light is not laser. While pulsed light is effective and can be used for other services, our experience supports the more powerful laser treatment for hair removal. Pulsed light is generally less safe for darker skin colours. The Coolglide is safest for all skin types including very dark skin.

How is laser hair removal different from electrolysis?

Electrolysis treatment is one hair at a time. Laser hair removal is much quicker. An area like the underarms, for example, can be treated in just 10 minutes.

How does Laser Hair Removal work?

Laser Hair Removal is a faster, gentler way to remove unwanted hair, with great results. Laser Hair Removal applies precisely controlled pulses of energy (electrical and light, with cooling), reaching into the hair follicles that lie beneath the skin. The energy heats the hair, right down to the bottom of the root, destroying it without damaging surrounding tissue or skin.

What are the risks of laser hair removal?

Slight reddening and local swelling of the skin, similar to a sunburn, may occur in some patients. These effects typically last 24 hours or less. In rare instances, blistering may occur. There is no recovery time. Patients can return to work or play immediately. These lasers do not remove skin, so the risks are very low. As with any procedure, we have an informed consent that explains all the possible risks.

Is laser hair removal painful?

Everyone’s pain tolerance is different. People have compared it to a rubber band snap against the skin. Compared to waxing the treatment has very little discomfort. If needed, we can apply a topical numbing cream to the skin prior to treatment. It is mainly utilized to any areas that are more sensitive.

What are the side effects of laser hair removal?

The energies used by Zinc Clinic are used in a range of medical and cosmetic procedures that have proven to be effective. Most people experience no side effects at all, though few exhibit some short-term local reddening of the surrounding skin. You can return to your regular activities immediately after laser hair removal treatment, although it is advisable to keep the skin protected from exposure to direct sunlight for a short period of time.

Are there any restrictions on my activity after treatment?

After your Cool Glide laser hair removal treatment, the area is cleansed and you can return to your normal activities immediately. Dr Beaini may recommend that you use a specially formulated skin care product line or prescribe a skin care regimen especially formulated for your skin type. The use of sun screen is recommended on any treated areas exposed to the sun. As always, it is a good idea to limit your sun exposure.

How many laser hair removal treatments will I need?

Our laser hair removal technology destroys hairs that are in the active growth phase, so repeat treatments will be needed to target hair that was not affected at the time of previous laser hair removal treatments. Normally six to eight laser hair removal treatments are recommended to get the optimum results.

What results can I expect from laser hair removal?

At the end of the laser hair removal treatment program you can expect your skin to be smooth. Some people require touch-up treatments in the future due to new hair growth.
